Japanese tourist rescued by Chinese police from a crocodile in Shanghai

An unidentified Chinese tourist who was rescued by police in Shanghai after being attacked by a crocodilian that bit him and stole his pet pig has been reunited with her family in Japan, officials said Wednesday.

The man, who is in his 30s, had been staying at a resort in Shanghai when he was attacked by the reptile, the local police department said.

He was taken to a hospital in the city of Shandong, where he was treated for minor injuries, and released a few hours later.

He returned home Wednesday after his wife called a local police station and informed authorities that her husband was fine, police said.

The suspect was not identified.

Authorities in China have arrested two other people over the incident and have launched a criminal investigation, local media reported.

The tourist was taken into custody and has been charged with animal cruelty, according to the Chinese news website Sina.
